Balik Alumni Program

The Balik-Alumni Program is one of the programs of the Alumni Relations Office & MMSU Federated Alumni Association Incorporated which primarily involves successful and accomplished alumni who return to their Alma Mater for them to share their love and expertise in various ways.

\"balikalumni.jpg\"Through the Balik-Alumni Program, alumni can offer the following services like being a speaker/trainer/lecturer of relevant issues and concerns; donors/benefactors/sponsors of various university programs which could benefit the students, faculty members and administrators and other alumni of the university. In addition, the Balik-Alumni Program can become the university’s linkage to other agencies/institutions.

As guest lecturer/resource speaker:

MMSU-Alumni Relations Office launched the Balik Alumni Program sponsored by MMSUFAAInc. and  ILARRDEC thru a Lecture  Forum on   Occupational Health and Safety Management last November 16, 2009 at the University Training  Center. The first guest lecturer alumnus was Herbert L. Caballero, BS Biology (cl, 1991). Mr. Caballero is a Scientific Officer of the University of Western Sydney, Australia specializing on Occupational Health and Safety Management. Attendees of the forum were laboratory staff, faculty and researchers from the MMSU, ILARRDEC, PhilRice, NTA, CODA, DA, PCC, Provincial Agricultural  Office, PVET, CRL and INWD.

This was followed by the coming of Emmanuel V. Asuncion, BS Biology (cl,1997), PhD in Agricultural Science, Japan and Research Associate who became the the guest speaker during the Bioday Celebration sponsored by the Bio Circle and  the CAS alumni Association last January 28, 2011. Dr. Asuncion who at present is the Research Associate of CRADS, Northern Christian College, Laoag City, has  joined his wife in  Australia to enhance his professional Career.

Another Balik–Alumnus of CAS, Daniel Karlo Guerrero, BS Computer Science, (cl, 2010) also served as guest lecturer during the Computer Science Week celebration sponsored by the Computer Science  Society and CAS Alumni Association last February 3, 2011. Mr. Guerrero is at present the Web-developer of Socient, which is based in Sampaloc, Manila.

At CIT, Rudimar Taclan, (cl, 1992) a former instructor of the college  was a resource speaker in Automotive Technology last November 23, 2010. He is at present the Training Manager at Jaguar/Range Rover, Saudi Arabia. As a Balik-Alumnus, he shared his expertise in automotive technology and inspired students being one of the products of MMSU.

Other alumni who were  tapped by the college were, Leah I. Lived a restaurant manager of Mc Donald’s Phils. in Candon City, Ilocos Sur. She was the guest of honor and speaker during the CIT recognition program last March 22, 2011. She is a a graduate of Diploma of Technology major in Food Technology Batch 2000 who pursued her BSIT degree through equivalency and experience crediting through Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency Assessment Program (ETEEAP).
Artemio T. Abalos  BSIE, (cl, 2008) an instructor of TESDA – MAIS in Brgy. Lydia Marcos, Ilocos Norte was also the guest of honor and inducting officer during the College Induction Program on August 12, 2011. He was awarded cum laude, best in Automotive Technology and Student of the Year during his graduation.

At CHS, Maria Christina Alonzo-Asuncion, BS Nursing (cl,1989) who at  present is a nurse based in New Jersey, served as the guest lecturer in the Lecture-Forum on “Brain Attack”(Stroke Awareness) sponsored by the CHS Alumni Association last February 7, 2011 .

Also, Chief Inspector Heraldo Layaoen, Jr. BS in Nursing, (cl,1993) was invited as guest lecturer on “Disaster and Emergency Preparedness” under the Balik Alumni Program of the Alumni Relations Office as part of the celebration of the college during the “CHS 35 years of Excellence” last June 22, 2011.

Ms. Maria Christina H. de Guzman, a certified critical care and neurosurgery nurse of the Kennedy Medical   Center in New Jersey and the Thomas Jefferson Hospital in Pennsylvania, came to the university under the Balik-Alumni Program to speak to nursing students in an event sponsored by the CHS Alumni Association and the BS Nursing Level IV students. Her topic was focused on “Updates in Neurologic Assessment” last January 27, 2012 at the MMSU Function Hall. She spoke on the current trends in assessing brain and nervous functions of patients and refreshed the students on the definition, symptoms, and risk factors of brain attack or stroke. She also shared her experiences in the treatment of acute stroke using tissue plasminogen activator (tPA), a potent thrombolytic or clot-busting drug. She further discussed assessment tools used for a patient admitted in the Intensive Care Unit.

The Laboratory High School was also very fortunate to have very  caring alumni who shared their time, effort, expertise and resources for the improvement of their alma mater to the fullest. Last June 2-3, 2011, Dr. Mayrose R. Salvador, (cl, 1995) organized a Science Teacher’s Camp which was conducted at the Laboratory High School as part of the Balik Alumni  Program of the unit. She brought with her four colleagues from the Chemistry and Physics Department of the University of Toronto, Canada through their Pueblo Science Organization to train science teachers in conducting experiments. Twenty science teachers joined the camp free of charge-3 from LES, 6 from LHS LAoag, 4 from LHS Batac, 1 from INCAT and 6 from DepEd.

Likewise, Ms. Corazon Sous, NLTC (cl, 1966) former NLTC Instructor and a retired Math Coach/Supervisor in California, lectured on Vitalizing Mathematics Instruction in Teacher Education to Math majors, generalists and Math faculty members of the College of Teacher Education last March 7, 2011. She also donated 300 USD for the Balay-Alumni Project of CTE.

A sister program of the Balik-Alumni Program of the Alumni Relations Office is the Servicio-Kapamilya Program which was launched last February 21, 2011. This program involves alumni-faculty members of the College who can offer similar services to that of the Balik –Alumni Program.

Part of the launching were the  lectures facilitated by Dr. Aris Cajigal on Qualitative Research in Teacher Education in the morning and by Dr. Artemio P. Seatriz on Quantitave Research in Teacher Education in the afternoon.
